Havant MP Alan Mak has said a multi-million pound development by clothing retailer FatFace at Dunsbury Park will help secure the town’s economic future, following an inspection of the site.
The MP saw the ongoing construction work taking place at the new distribution centre first hand during a site visit, hearing about how the investment could see the company employ an extra 150 people within five years.
FatFace’s development is just one part of a planned business park just off the A3(M), which could eventually generate millions of pounds for the local economy, and upto 3500 new jobs in total.
The new recruitment boost from FatFace comes ahead of the second Havant Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair organised by Mr Mak. He hailed the clothing retailer for choosing to continue its association with Havant and said he was impressed by the new distribution centre at Dunsbury Park which is due to open later this year.
He said: “FatFace is an excellent local employer who are committed to Havant’s booming economy. They put their faith into our area because of our skilled workforce, strong economy, and excellent transport links. These new jobs will help Havant keep unemployment levels at historic lows.”
Mr Mak added: “The new distribution centre is already looking brilliant, offering a shop window for other potential investors. I’m sure many other big name companies will follow FatFace’s lead and invest at Dunsbury Park.”
FatFace will be one of the main partners of the MP’s Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair, which is taking place on Friday 3 March at Havant Leisure Centre from 10am to 4pm, backed by the News.
Representatives from dozens of industries from both the public and private sectors, ranging from the Armed Forces to care agencies and retail, will be on hand to offer jobs and advice.
FatFace CEO Anthony Thompson said: “It was great to show Alan around the site and update him on the progress of our Dunsbury Park development. We are excited to be expanding our Havant operation and continue our longstanding commitment to the area. As our workforce continues to grow, we will be looking to take on more staff from the local area. So we will be delighted to exhibit at Alan’s Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair to showcase FatFace as a great place to work.”
