Havant MP Alan Mak has reserved special praise for the generous residents and kind-hearted fundraisers of Emsworth following a table-top sale at Emsworth Community Centre to help raise money for refugees around the world.
Emsworth’s Jackie Stott organised the refugee fundraiser, in which more than twenty volunteers brought along an array of homemade cakes, second-hand books and household items to sell – with proceeds going to charities such as Save the Children, World Vision, the Red Cross, and Care.
Havant MP Mak lent his own support, meeting stall-holders and drawing the raffle that added to eventual total of £1633 raised on the day. The local MP backed the community spirit in Emsworth, exemplified by the remarkable activities of 72-year-old Jackie Stott.
Mak said: “I was delighted to come down the Emsworth Community Centre and help Jackie with her table-top sale to raise money for refugees around the world. It is heart-warming to see these examples of selflessness from members of our local community; Jackie and the volunteers here today are an example to us all.”
The Havant MP added: “I think it is vital that we recognise the charitable work done around Havant, not only by large organisation or local businesses, but by individuals who motivate others around them. Raising £1633 was a great effort today, and I look forward to helping out with similar events in future.”
Jackie Stott added: “I was delighted to welcome Alan to our table-top sale to raise money for refugees. It has become too hard to sit by a watch refugees suffering, it was brilliant to see Emsworth residents and local charities doing their bit by supporting this sale.”
Ms Stott added: “Alan was very supportive and kind in giving up his time to oversee the raffle draw. As our local MP, it is great to see that he clearly cares about giving generously and supporting good causes.”
