Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis has thrown his support behind Havant’s latest building boom after he toured the constituency with local MP Alan Mak. Mr Lewis praised the scale and pace of construction projects in the area as he visited the major developments at Nursery Fields, Harts Farm Way and Brockhampton West.
The site at Nursery Fields, which is managed by local construction experts Barratt Homes, includes a number of three, four and five bedroom homes designed in-line with the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. At the centre of the new development, construction is currently underway for a state-of-the-art community centre that will be built exclusively by local apprentices.
Hampshire has been set a Government target to build 76,000 new homes by the end of 2026, of which Havant is expected to contribute 6,300. With good progress underway on developments across the constituency, Havant looks set to meet these targets.
Mr Lewis also joined Havant MP Mak and representatives from P & I Generators at Harts Farm Way, where the Havant-based power generator supplier is cutting the turf for a new site that will help drive growth and create jobs in the area.
Reflecting on his visit, Minister Brandon Lewis said: “It is great to see Havant powering ahead, delivering on its promises to provide new and affordable housing to its hard-working residents. The development at Nursery Fields is a shining example of a community-based construction project: built by local apprentices, for local people.”
Mr Lewis added: “I thank Alan for showing me around a small number of the numerous exciting developments underway here in Havant. It was great, for instance, to help cut the turf at P & I Generators’ new site at Harts Farm Way.”
“Alan has been active in supporting the ‘Right to Buy’ scheme, which allows millions more people to get onto the property ladder and into affordable housing. I have no doubts that the Havant building boom is right on track.”
Havant MP Mak also took the Minister around industrial building site at Brockhampton West, which is being transformed into a hub of industrial production, technical excellence and employment.
Mak said: “I was delighted to welcome Housing and Planning Minister Brandon Lewis to Havant, where our construction sector is stronger than ever. I have an excellent relationship with Nursery Fields developers Barrett Homes, and was pleased to show Brandon how they are knitting together the vital provision of new housing with a compassionate community touch.”
The Havant MP added: “I am committed to making Havant a better place to live and work in. I have supported investment in our housing projects, and have backed local initiatives such as the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership which drives redevelopments such as Dunsbury Hill Farm and Brockhamtpon West.”
