MP Alan Mak is showing support to Havant Apprentice, Justin Morgan as he and his team take part in the final stages of the Brathay Apprentice Challenge 2016.
Hampshire County Councils apprentices are currently taking part in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge and they are successfully through to the National Finals. The Brathay Apprentice Challenge is the search for the apprentice team of the year, supported by the National Apprenticeship Service and the Brathay Trust. To win, teams undertake a series of exciting and interactive work-related challenges to develop new skills and showcase their employer, by engaging with media, MPs, young people, employers to promote the benefits of apprenticeships.
The team have been taking part in raising the profile of apprenticeships by conducting presentations within schools across Hampshire, speaking to many young people and employers about apprenticeships. The team also embarked on a community project with the aim of the project was to encourage young people into employment by showing them how volunteering can increase their employability.
MP Alan Mak and Justin engaged in a job swap that saw mak shadowing the set up of a conference and the apprentices work on children's services, and Justin shadowing some of the duties of the MP including his meetings at Havant Borough council with councillors and staff. Morgan is currently based at Havant Borough Council.
As the team are now through to the National Finals there is one last push to promote apprenticeships as much as possible before they head up to Brathay HQ in Cumbria for 3 days to battle it out and see who will be crowned apprentice team of the year 2016.
Mak said, "Backing young people into work is one of my top priorities as local MP. I enjoyed shadowing Justin and understanding more about his role as a local apprentice. Apprentices play a key role locally, and I'm delighted Justin had the chance to experience my work as MP too".
Justin Morgan said, "My job swap with our local MP Alan Mak was very enjoyable, and I'm delighted he is backing me and my apprentice colleagues as we head to the national finals".
