Havant MP Alan Mak has handed over a cheque worth more than £250 to the Havant Branch of the Royal British Legion from a raffle he organised.
More than £500 was raised by the raffle at Alan’s Havant Small Business Awards recently, with the proceeds split equally with the Southern Domestic Abuse Service, and Alan was at British Legion’s Havant branch to hand over the cheque.
Alan said: “As a longstanding Royal British Legion volunteer, I was delighted to raise over £250 to help fund their excellent work supporting veterans locally. I’ve worked closely with the charity since I was first elected, including helping with the poppy appeal around the constituency. It’s so important that we recognise and thank those who have served their country in conflict.”
This year the Royal British Legion is to take all surviving veterans of the Second World War on a free Remembrance tour to where they served during their time in the Armed Forces. Tours will take place throughout 2018 and will give WW2 veterans the chance to meet up with fellow veterans and pay their respects at battlefield sites, cemeteries and memorials.
Chairman of the Havant Branch of the Royal British Legion, David Argue, said: ‘’This money will help continue the work we are doing as an organisation in supporting Veterans who live in the Havant area. We are grateful for the support from Havant’s small businesses and Alan in raising awareness of the British Legion and the work we do.”
