Local MP Alan Mak has praised the Government’s support for vulnerable children that has helped hundreds of families across the Havant Constituency during the summer holidays.
During the summer holidays an additional £2.5million was allocated by the Government to Hampshire County Council (HCC) so they could provide vouchers to children in receipt of free school meals. In total, £7.3million has now been awarded to HCC through the Covid Local Support Grant Scheme.
During the school holidays this has been used to provide food vouchers for children in receipt of free school meals.
In addition, HCC has run its ‘connect4communities’ programme in collaboration with community partners such as schools, colleges and Early Years providers, as well as voluntary and charity organisations. Community grants were also available to fund food and utilities support for families in need.
Mr Mak has seen first hand some of the support that has been available to low income families having visited St Alban’s School earlier in the year.
Alan Mak MP said: “Throughout the summer holidays Government support has been in place to help low income families. This vital funding has given additional security to families while the Coronavirus pandemic still impacts lives and jobs. When the new school term starts these children will be in a better position to catch-up with their education.”
