Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the completion of improvement works at Bedhampton Road bus stop and associated nearby road improvements. £335,000 in Government funding has enabled the work to take place through the Transforming Cities Fund (CTF) that aims to provide investment for new infrastructure, improving accessibility for people travel by foot, bicycle, and bus.
Hampshire County Council, in partnership with Portsmouth City Council and the Isle of Wight, secured £56m in funding to deliver transport schemes across South-East Hampshire, including the within the Havant - Portsmouth - Southsea corridor. The measures at Bedhampton Road form part of a package of improvements within the corridor, designed to deliver quicker, more reliable journey times and greater operational efficiency.
Alan Mak MP visited the site of the revamped bus stop on Bedhampton Road along with Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Councillor Mark Inkster, and County Councillor Nick Adams King, Executive Lead Member for Universal Services at HCC, along with project managers from Havant Borough Council and HCC that have been overseeing the project.
Alan Mak MP said, "I am delighted to see this investment in our local infrastructure. This Government funding has enabled the delivery of essential improvements to Bedhampton Road and the bus stop, making it easier for people to travel by bus and reducing congestion on our roads."
Councillor Liz Fairhurst said, "This is good news for residents in Bedhampton and the wider area. The improvements to the Bedhampton Road bus stop will make a difference to those who rely on public transport to get around."
