Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed an additional £33,367 of Government funding for Havant Borough Council to provide vital support services for domestic abuse victims.

The Government is providing £125 million to councils across England to make sure that safe accommodation spaces, such as refuges and shelters, can provide victims with vital support services including healthcare, social workers and benefits.

The £33,367 that Havant Borough Council is receiving from the Government in this round of funding will help them to increase the support they can offer to domestic abuse victims, and offer the flexibility to decide how the money is spent to match local priorities and benefit those in need.

In addition, Alan Mak MP has continued to support Havant-based charity Stop Domestic Abuse  since 2015, and the charity receives separate Home Office funding to provide support to victims of domestic abuse in the Havant and South Hampshire area. He has visited their local shelter and lobbied for funding on their behalf in Westminster.

Local MP Alan Mak said: “Domestic abuse is a horrific crime, and it’s very important that victims are offered all the support that they need. I welcome the Government’s additional £33,367 funding for Havant Borough Council to support victims. This funding will give victims of domestic abuse and their children the practical and emotional support to recover and rebuild their lives.”
