Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed Government funding to help improve the Leigh Park Community Centre site.
A £119,500 grant from the Government’s One Public Estate funding programme has been awarded to the local council to invest in securing the best possible future for amenities on the Leigh Park Community Centre site.
One Public Estate is a national programme run by the Cabinet Office, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Local Government Association.
The Leigh Park Community Centre site offers a wide range of assets, including a skills training centre for a career in construction, a library and the community centre itself.
The funding will be invested in exploring future options for the site and keeping it relevant to local need, which could include enhancing existing services and residential development.
Delivered over the next year, the programme will engage closely with the community and local stakeholders to ensure voices are heard and needs are identified.
This critical work will provide the impetus and opportunity to engage with investors, apply for additional external funding and set out a clear plan of delivery for the development of the site, benefitting the residents of Leigh Park and the borough as a whole.
Mr Mak held his 8th annual Jobs, Apprenticeships and Careers Fair at the Leigh Park Community Centre in 2023, and is planning to hold the popular residents’ event again there this year.
Local MP Mr Mak said: " I held my Jobs Fair at the Leigh Park Community Centre last year and I know how valued the site is for local residents. It’s great news for Leigh Park residents that the site is receiving Government funding to explore how it could be improved to meet local needs in the future which I strongly support. “
