Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed the ambitious plans of Hayling Island Community Centre after meeting with new centre manager Iona Harkness.
The Community Centre has bounced back from COVID and is planning an extensive programme of events for 2022 including for the Queen’s Jubilee in June.
The Community Centre will also continue its fundraising activity.
Previously, Alan Mak MP backed the Community Centre’s “Buy a Brick” campaign, and continues to support the Centre by hosting his annual Community Information Fair there, as well as his Local COP26 Climate and Environment Conference in November last year. Revenue from room hire is the Centre’s main source of income.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “I’m delighted to see Hayling Island Community Centre bouncing back from the COVID pandemic and is now once again open to the public. The Centre’s main revenue stream is room hire, so I would encourage local residents, community groups and clubs to use the fantastic local facilities on offer there. I will continue hosting my Community Information Fair there and it’s always proved popular with Islanders”.
Hayling Island Community Centre Manager Iona Harkness said: “Thank you to Alan Mak MP for his continued support, and coming to hear our plans for the future. Together with the phenomenal support we have received from the Community, we are now very close to our £60,000 fundraising target. We are delighted to be able to continue to offer our facilities to the public after a challenging period and are fully open for business and always welcome more room bookings.”
