Local MP Alan Mak has welcomed Environment Agency funding for seven schemes to protect homes and businesses in the Havant Constituency against flooding, following his campaigning work.
The seven schemes that have been allocated funding for 2026/27 are:
Eastoke Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Scheme, Hayling Island - £300,000
Habitat creation at Conigar Point (between Emsworth and Langstone) and Warblington - £200,000
Hampshire Property Flood Resilience Scheme - £274,000
Langstone Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Scheme - £7,001,000
Habitat creation at Northney Farm, Hayling Island - £300,000
Selsmore and Mengham Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Scheme, Hayling Island - £300,000
South Hayling Island Beach Management Plan 2024-2029, including Eastoke Drainage Study - £563,000
The Hampshire Property Flood Resilience Scheme is an Environment Agency-led project. The rest will be led by Coastal Partners, a partnership formed by five coastal councils including Havant, working with the Environment Agency.
All funding for the projects will come from the Environment Agency, with the only additional contribution being £436,700 of Local Levy for the Langstone scheme from the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee. This is by far the most expensive project, involving the construction of 1km of new sea defences.
Mr Mak, who has campaigned for more flood defence funding and worked closely with Coastal Partners on flooding and other environmental issues across the Havant Constituency, said: "I'm pleased to see local schemes that will help to protect homes and business against flooding have received Environment Agency funding
"I have spoken in Parliament on local flooding issues and I'll continue to speak up on behalf of local residents for Government funding to maintain and improve important flood defences."
