Local MP Alan Mak has visited Hayling Cycles ahead of Small Business Saturday and urged people to support independent traders.
He called in to see owner Les Holloway to show his support and back the annual campaign that encourages shoppers to use small businesses in their communities all year round.
Small Business Saturday takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on shopping habits.
Les was in the Royal Navy for 19 years and travelled the world as an electrician. He moved to Hayling in 2012 and now runs Hayling Cycles.
He said: "I always tinkered with my children's bikes when they were young."
Les caters for local riders of all ages, plus visitors who come to Hayling to cycle the Billy Trail.
Hayling Cycles sells new bikes from manufacturers such as Claud Butler and Dawes, while electric bikes are becoming more and more popular. Les also stocks a range of accessories and has a workshop out the back where he can carry out repairs.
Although he's a one-man band during the week, Les said his grandson helps him to fix bikes on Saturdays.
He said: "Quite often people will leave a bike out in the garden and it will seize up. They don't like the salty air."
Mr Mak said: "I really enjoyed calling in to see Les. Small independent businesses such as Hayling Cycles are the lifeblood of our local economy.
"I encourage residents across the Havant Constituency to support them by shopping local, not just on Small Business Saturday but all year round."
