Local MP Alan Mak is urging local residents in the Havant Constituency to get their Coronavirus booster vaccinations following a visit to a local booster clinic at Davies Pharmacy in Havant.
A third dose of COVID-19 vaccine increases a person’s resistance to the virus, and decreases the likelihood of being hospitalised reducing pressure on the NHS.
Currently, anybody who has had 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccine where the second dose was administered at least 6 months ago, and who fit into any one of the below categories, is eligible to receive their booster vaccine:
- People aged 50 or over
- People who live and work in care homes
- Frontline health and social care workers
- People aged 16 and over with a health condition that puts them at high risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19
- People aged 16 and over who live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
Women who are pregnant and in one of the above eligible groups are also able to get a booster dose.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “As we move to more socialising indoors during the winter months, it’s more important than ever that we take measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The best thing we can do to protect ourselves and others is to get a booster vaccine when you’re eligible. Thanks to everyone at Davies Pharmacy and our local NHS for their great work administering booster vaccines.”
Those eligible to receive their booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine can do so by booking online through the NHS website. Alternatively, you can find a walk-in vaccination site.
