Local MP Alan Mak speaks at ceremony in Havant to honour three local men lost in Falklands conflict

Local MP Alan Mak has attended and spoken at a ceremony in Havant to honour three men who lost their lives in the Falklands conflict in 1982.

Their names have now been added to those already included on the town's War Memorial in West Street.

They are:

Anthony Charles Eggington from Purbrook, who served as a Weapons Engineering Artificer in the Royal Navy in HMS Sheffield

Richard Charles Emly from Havant, who served as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Navy in HMS Sheffield

Kenneth Evans from Waterlooville, who served as a Corporal in 45 Commando, Royal Marines

At the ceremony, Mr Mak spoke about the importance of remembering all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

He thanked Honorary Alderman and former Hayling East councillor Leah Turner for her work in initiating the post-WWII plaques on the memorial, and April Shilstone from Havant Borough Council for her help with updating them.

He also marked the recent passing of Dave Argue, for many years the chairman of the Royal British Legion, Havant Branch.

Mr Mak said: "I’m a strong supporter of our Armed Forces, veterans and military families. It's right and proper that all those local people who lost their lives in the service of their country, no matter in what conflict or when it took place, are honoured by their names being included on Havant War Memorial.

"Having visited the Falklands to meet veterans, their families and members of the British Armed Forces serving there, I know how important it is for those who were involved in the conflict to be properly remembered.

"It's fitting that these names have now been added to the War Memorial and I'll continue to support our Armed Forces and our veterans' community."
