Local MP Alan Mak has visited the older person’s learning group, U3A Ems Valley, in Emsworth to thank them for their work promoting lifelong learning.

As part of U3A’s National Day, volunteers from the group hosted an event at Emsworth Hospital Gardens, showcasing the different courses they are offering to the public which Mr Mak was invited to attend to show his support.

Standing for ‘University of the Third Age’, U3A are a national educational network providing a range of classes to people retired from full time employment, giving retired people the chance to explore new ideas, skills and interests. Other branches can be found across the Havant Constituency.

At the event, Mr Mak was able to thank the local volunteers who are giving up their time to teach subjects as diverse as wine tasting, gardening and the history of ancient Greece.

Mr Mak said: “I am a whole-hearted believer in lifelong learning. It’s never too late to acquire new skills and make new friends and that’s definitely the philosophy of U3A. After all the disruption of the pandemic, I am so pleased to see U3A Ems Valley bouncing back stronger than ever.”
