Local MP Alan Mak has planted a wooden cross in the 2026 Constituency Garden of Remembrance in Parliament to honour the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces from the Havant Constituency.
The garden in New Palace Yard, outside Westminster Hall, was launched in 2021 by the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle in partnership with the Royal British Legion.
It gives all 650 MPs from across the UK the opportunity to participate collectively in an Act of Remembrance at the home of Parliamentary democracy.
Mr Mak said: "I was honoured to plant a cross, as I do every year, on behalf of everyone in the Havant Constituency to remember all those from our area who have served our country and paid the ultimate price for defending our freedom and democracy.
"The Garden of Remembrance is a poignant reminder of the service and sacrifice of our veterans, Armed Forces personnel and military families from the Havant Constituency and across the country."
As Member of Parliament for the Havant Constituency, and Vice-President of the Havant Branch of the Royal British Legion, Mr Mak will be in attendance at services throughout Remembrance Sunday and wider Remembrancetide.
These include the Public Act of Remembrance at Havant War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday followed by a service in St Faith’s Church, and in the afternoon attending the service at St James’ Emsworth. Additionally, wreaths will be laid on Mr Mak’s behalf at Hayling Island War Memorial and Hayling Island COPP Memorial.
He will also attend the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance in London in the presence of HM The King this Saturday.
