Local MP Alan Mak has opened a new state of the art manufacturing plant on New Lane, West Leigh that will be key to delivering the UK’s Covid vaccination programme.

Sartorius is an international pharmaceutical and laboratory equipment supplier and will produce equipment for the Covid vaccinations from its new 58,000 square-foot plant.

Mr Mak opened the factory at a special ceremony, attended virtually by hundreds of company employees, welcoming the investment into the Havant area and the new jobs it brings for local residents.

As well as making equipment for the Covid vaccinations process, the factory will be used by skilled engineers to design and manufacture a range of systems for the biopharmaceutical market. These systems are vital for the manufacture of injectable drugs as treatments for cancer and diabetes, as well as viral vaccine production.

Mr Mak said: ‘I’m delighted that Sartorius is the latest in a series of businesses to relocate to New Lane and invest in Havant. This investment will bring new high skilled, high wage, high quality jobs for local people.

“I’m also proud that this new facility will play a critical role in the UK’s response to the coronavirus, and our world-leading vaccination programme. The treatments and equipment produced here in Havant will make a real impact in saving lives all over the world.”
