Local MP Alan Mak has participated in several activities on and around Hayling Island to mark Remembrancetide.
Our local MP joined forces with Angela Hopkins, Hayling’s local poppy appeal coordinator, to sell poppies at Lidl on Hayling Island. He has sold poppies on Hayling for several years.
Although he was unable to be on Hayling Island for Remembrance Sunday due to attending the Borough’s main Civic Remembrance Service in Havant, Mr Mak arranged for two wreaths to be laid on his behalf at services on the Island, both at 11am on Remembrance Sunday.
The first was laid by Cllr Brenda Linger on behalf of Mr Mak at the COPP Memorial on the Seafront.
The second was laid by Cllr Clare Satchwell at the Cenotaph service.
Mr Mak later visited Hayling Island on the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday to pay his respects at the Cenotaph on Elm Grove in Mengham.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “Every year at Remembrancetide, I sell poppies on Hayling Island and lay wreaths to honour the service and sacrifice of all those have served and continue to serve our country. Thank you to local residents for their strong support for the Poppy Appeal and their participation in events on Armistice Day, Remembrance Sunday and throughout Remembrancetide on and around Hayling Island.”
