Local MP Alan Mak has helped Royal British Legion volunteers on Hayling Island to raise funds for this year’s Poppy Appeal.

He spent time selling poppies with Angela Hopkins' RBL Hayling Island branch team at the Lidl store in Manor Road.

He also met up with Havant area Poppy Appeal Lead Andy Carter MBE and RBL Havant Branch Chairman Rick Standen to launch the local appeal at Tesco and bought the first poppy.

Mr Mak then helped local volunteers to sell poppies at the Meridian Centre and in Leigh Park.

He is Vice-President of Havant RBL and a longstanding Legion volunteer.

Mr Mak said: "I was honoured to join our local Royal British Legion volunteers again this year to sell poppies on Hayling Island and in Havant.

"I know that residents will give as much as they can to the Poppy Appeal to help veterans and active service personnel and their families and I thank all those who have donated and are wearing a poppy this Remembrancetide.”
