Alan Mak MP hosts the first Havant Prayer Breakfast with local church leaders

Local MP Alan Mak has organised and hosted the first Havant Prayer Breakfast in partnership with St. Faith’s Church in Havant. Normally the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast is hosted in Westminster Hall but this year the event was livestreamed to groups across the country, who came together to share breakfast and join in prayer.

Mr Mak organised the first Havant Prayer Breakfast to enable local church leaders and Christians to watch the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast together.

Mr Mak was joined by Canon Tom Kennar and other local church leaders at St. Faith Church in Havant, who offered prayers to guide the work of Parliamentarians. As part of the national event, they also heard from Christian Parliamentarians, as well as the former Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright, who spoke of the need for hope and unity as we recover from Covid.

Mr Mak said “For Christians, faith is a hugely important part of our lives and the Havant Prayer Breakfast gives us a fantastic opportunity to recognise the contribution which Christians and church communities make to our area and the wider country. I’m delighted we had so many local church leaders involved and I thank them for their work in our communities.”

By bringing people of all political persuasions together in prayer, it also reminds us of our common purpose and the shared faith which binds us together.

Mr Mak added that organising the Havant Prayer Breakfast meant more people than ever before were able to be involved.

The National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast is an annual event hosted by the All-Party Parliament Group of Christians in Parliament. It brings together hundreds of MPs, Peers and church leaders to pray and reflect upon the relevance of Christian faith in public life on a cross-party basis.
