Local MP Alan Mak has joined children from St. Thomas More’s Catholic Primary School and Nursery in Bedhampton to celebrate National Storytelling Week.
Mr Mak was invited to visit the nursery, where he spent time with local children and read Michael Rosen’s famous children’s story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. He also invited the children and their staff on a tour of Parliament when they were older, and met school leaders to discussed funding streams for nursery-aged education settings.
National Storytelling Week celebrates stories in every form and is celebrated in schools, clubs, museums and spoken word venues.
Following the story, Mr Mak met with the nursery’s Business Manager Andrea Wingfield, and pre-school manager Sarah Hennessy. At the meeting, the three discussed Government funding streams for early-years education and how nursery settings can improve their access to these funds.
Local MP Alan Mak said: “I was delighted to visit St. Thomas More’s School and Nursery to celebrate National Storytelling Week. Stories are an important part of learning and are a great medium for sharing knowledge. I had a lot of fun reading We’re Going on a Bear Hunt with the children!”
He added: “I was pleased to discuss funding support for early years education settings. I hope that following our discussion, the Nursery will be better equipped to apply for funding from the local authority and other bodies”.
