Local MP Alan Mak has called on Hayling Islanders to support their local Army cadet detachment, and encouraged more young people to sign up for an enriching experience that builds and nurtures skills vital to success in life.
The call followed a visit by the Havant Constituency MP to 3 Platoon Barossa Company who are based on the seafront near Eastoke Corner. Mr Mak met the Platoon’s Commanding Officer Major Nigel Foster, as well as Hayling Island cadets Cashford and Watkins, who both intend to pursue military careers after completing their GCSEs at Hayling College. Alan also joined the cadets for lessons in radiotelephony, communications and the importance of using standard issue phrases and callsigns.
In an increasingly competitive careers market, Alan is now encouraging more youngsters on Hayling Island to get involved with the Army Cadets and enrich their future opportunities, as well as considering a career in the Armed Forces.
He said: “I was delighted to meet Hayling Army Cadets Watkins and Cashford. Joining the Cadets presents a great deal of opportunities to experience activities you wouldn’t get to try anywhere else. I strongly encourage young people on Hayling Island to consider joining the Cadets, setting themselves up for a rewarding career in our Armed Forces or civilian life in the future.”
