Local residents affected by dementia and their carers were able to put their questions to their MP Alan Mak in Havant last week.
Mak met nine people affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s Society on Friday 9 October at the United Reform Church in central Havant. They discussed diagnosis rates, local service provision - including Dementia Cafes and Singing for the Brain - and Dementia Friendly Communities.
There are 2,031 people living with dementia in Havant.
Amber Reed, Manager for Alzheimer's Society in Hampshire said:
“People affected by dementia are the experts on what it is like to live with the condition. Their expertise helps inform the health and social care services that they use, the development of research that improves diagnosis, treatment and care, as well as the services and amenities that are in their local community. We believe that people affected by dementia should be able to influence decisions which can affect their lives.
“I think it was really great for the 9 individuals to meet Mr Mak as it gave them a chance to discuss issues that face them in their day-to-day lives.”
Alan Mak MP said: “I found my meeting with local residents affected by dementia very informative. I am pleased that UK efforts on research have been world leading, and I'm proud to back the News' dementia awareness campaign. The Government will be investing £300 million in the next five years into dementia research. The Alzheimer's Society does brilliant work locally and I look forward to supporting their events in the future”
