Havant MP Alan Mak reserved special praise for the unsung community heroes at Havant’s Jobcentre Plus who work behind the scenes to help local residents find work.
With his inaugural Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair around the corner, Mak highlighted the vital community work done by employment advisors and work coaches in the constituency.
Mr Mak recently visited Havant’s Jobcentre Plus on Elmleigh Road in central Havant as part of his employment drive in the region. The MP stressed that Havant cannot afford to fall behind in the race for innovation and success. He met Leone Hill who runs the Jobcentre, as well as members of her management team and employment advisors.
He praised the work of employment advisers such as Havant resident Karen Griffiths and operations manager Lynne Grimes for helping Havant residents to find stable work. Mak was also given a demonstration of the JobCentre’s vacancies database, and given a tour of the premises meeting jobseekers and careers advisors.
Havant’s Jobcentre Plus is a key partner for Mak’s Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, and will be encouraging the 800 residents receiving jobseekers allowance to attend on the day, as well as providing advice to benefits claimants at the event.
Mak said: “Havant Jobcentre Plus’ employment advisors do a fantastic job helping residents off benefits and into work, and make a huge contribution to our local economy and our community. They are the unsung heroes who deserve recognition, because they have helped drive down joblessness in Havant by over 50% since 2010.”
Mak added, “I am delighted that Jobcentre Plus are key partners for my Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair. Leone and her team form a key link between Havant businesses and local residents seeking to find a job, change careers, or get advice. The security of a regular pay packet is the key to a brighter future. Havant Job Centre Plus and I are determined that this is available to every resident.”
Leone Hill, Employer Account Manager for the Jobcentre Plus in Portsmouth and South East Hants, said “We are fully behind Alan’s Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, which is not only a great idea but a fantastic event. It will be an excellent opportunity for local employers and jobseekers to engage with each other, and we look forward to a busy and exciting day”.
Karen Griffiths said, “Alan’s Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair will be a perfect opportunity for jobseekers to speak face to face with local employers and find out about the range of roles on offer.”
The inaugural Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair will take place at Warblington School in Havant on Friday 19th February from 10-4PM. Admission is free for both attendees and exhibitors.
Celebrity businessman Charlie Mullins OBE, founder of Pimlico Plumbers, will open the Fair at 10.30AM. Sun careers editor Jane Hamilton will give a talk at 12noon. The News is the event’s major media partner.
