Havant MP Alan Mak has launched the Havant Curry House Awards, a competition to identify local residents’ favourite curry house.
Mak is asking residents to vote for their favourite Indian or South Asian restaurant or takeaway based in the Havant constituency.
The winner of Mak’s local competition will be crowned winner of the Havant Curry House Awards and be nominated by Mak to be Havant’s entry in a national contest, the Tiffin Cup, to identify Britain’s favourite curry house. Runners-up in the Havant Curry House Awards will receive a certificate from Mak.
The Tiffin Cup has been established for seven years and is awarded by a cross-party group of MPs in the House of Commons. The Tiffin Cup’s charity partner this year is World Vision, a Christian humanitarian charity with active supporters in Havant, including Orchard Road resident Sue Tinney.
Mak launched the Havant Curry House Awards at Emsworth’s Spice Village on Saturday 27 June 2015. Mak met Abdul Ahad, owner of the Spice Village, and his staff, alongside local Emsworth councillor Brendan Gibb-Gray.
Voting will be online, and residents should CLICK HERE to register their vote by 12noon on Monday 13 July 2015. The curry house that receives the most votes will win.
Local curry house owners are encouraged to ask their customers to vote for them.
Alan Mak MP said, “I hope residents will vote for their favourite curry house to champion local small businesses and hopefully bring the Tiffin Cup to Havant! I’m proud to launch this fun, local competition that celebrates our small businesses and helps a great charity. Hopefully the competition for the Havant Curry House Awards will be as hot as the curries themselves! ”
