From humble beginnings growing up in Leigh Park to the boardroom of local property giant Fasset, which operates Langstone Technology Park, Gary Medlow is one of Havant’s great success stories.
Now, the business leader is looking to give back to the community as the major corporate sponsor & partner for the first Havant Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair organised by local MP Alan Mak.
Medlow says his modest and local origins give him a vested interest in Havant’s future prosperity, having worked onsite at Langstone Technology Park (formerly the IBM site) since leaving school in 1977.
He is a keen advocate of the local business community and supports responsible practice as an active member of Business in the Community (BITC). Mr Medlow also sits on the Corporation (governing body) of Havant Sixth Form College, which recently announced its proposed merger with South Downs College. Medlow has also supported Havant Academy, a secondary school based in Leigh Park, as a mentor for young people. At the other end of the age spectrum he is a keen sponsor of the Havant Men’s Shed, which provides an outlet for the older generation.
Under Medlow’s leadership Fasset has been a business success story, providing commercial property management and consultancy services. That success has had a hugely positive effect on the local area. Its management of Langstone Technology Park has driven a stream of 52 enterprising businesses onto the 40-acre site. Industry leaders such as Jobsite, Hitachi and Seagate have all been attracted by Fasset, committing long-term employment and economic investment in Havant.
Medlow has also turned Fasset from a local player into a national business. Today, Fasset employs 300 employees and operates 5 other large business parks across the country, including Manchester, Kent and Teesside.
Mr Medlow and Fasset have now vowed to give back to the region as a major partner of the Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair organised by Havant MP Alan Mak. The event, backed by the Portsmouth News, and taking place at Warblington School on Friday 19th February, will enable local employers to advertise vacancies and lend their expertise to Havant jobseekers. Over 35 employers have already signed up, and Charlie Mullins OBE, founder of Pimlico Plumbers, will open the event.
Gary Medlow, Managing Director of Fasset, said: “I am immensely proud of everything we have achieved at Fasset. As a local employer we are committed not only to our customers but to the community as well. We want to do everything possible to make Havant a prosperous place to invest and a great place to live.”
Medlow added, “Hard work, determination and ambition have helped me develop my career, and these are traits shared by local residents. Fasset is backing Alan’s Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair because we believe in helping people achieve their potential, whether it’s our own employees, local students we’ve mentored, or residents looking for a new job or career change.”
Alan Mak MP said “Gary Medlow is an inspirational asset for Havant. Fasset has grown under Gary’s leadership because he believes in doing good not just doing well. His journey from modest beginnings to the top of his profession is a great example to anyone who wants to succeed through hard work.”
Mak added, “I’m delighted that Fasset is our major corporate sponsor and strategic partner for the Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair. Interest from local employers and jobseekers has been very strong, and having businesses such as Fasset at the event is an exciting opportunity for local people.”
